UGC Fake University List: On Wednesday, the University Grants Commission (UGC) revealed a list of 20 universities in India that have been identified as fraudulent. According to the UGC, these institutions lack the authority to grant any degrees, with Delhi being home to the highest number of such universities, totaling eight.
Today, UGC secretary Manish Joshi brought to light a concerning issue where several institutions have been awarding degrees in violation of the UGC Act. He emphasized that degrees granted by these universities would not be recognized or considered valid for higher education or employment purposes, as these universities lack the authority to confer any degrees.

UGC Declared These are Fake Universities:
During the release of the list of institutions, UGC secretary Manish Joshi categorically referred to these universities as “fake.” The list indicated that Delhi had the highest number with eight such universities, followed by Uttar Pradesh with four, and Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal with two each. Additionally, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Kerala also had universities that were labeled as “fake” by the UGC.

Last year, the UGC had already identified and declared 21 universities as fake. Surprisingly, some of these universities have once again appeared on the current year’s list.
According to the UGC, universities are permitted to award degrees only if they are established under a Central, State/Provincial Act, or if they hold the status of deemed-to-be universities. Additionally, institutions specifically authorized by an Act of Parliament are also eligible to confer degrees upon their students. This stringent requirement ensures that degree-granting institutions possess the necessary legal backing and authorization, enabling them to maintain academic standards and provide students with legitimate qualifications.
